The holidays are upon us, and we here at Dogwood Hill are, of course, excited for many reasons. It’s holiday baking time, it’s time to reconnect with family and old friends, and, of course, it’s time to decorate! Warmth is the key to creating a convivial holiday environment, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get playful with decor. We love our traditional cozy, warm hunter greens and burgundies, and this year, we’re excited about adding another facet to our holiday decorating: blue and white.

Blue and white is, of course, classically Southern–ginger jars pop up on sideboards all across the South–and this year, inspired by one of our new designs, we just had to share some of our favorite ways to incorporate blue and white into your traditional holiday decor, and a few of the things that we’re loving.

● Try switching a traditional green or grapevine wreath for something like this chic and rustic white option.

● While looking for inspiration, consider that clear glass and/or silver are merry stand-ins for more traditional white. We think these elegant ornaments would be a pretty addition to any tree or hanging arrangement.

● Complement that so-Southern ginger jar with these pretty Chinoiserie ornaments or these handmade dutch ornaments. They’ll be a bright pop against the dark green of your tree.

● If you’ve got any traditional flow blue china or blue and white transferware, consider topping your table with that this season, and giving traditional holiday china a rest.

● These pretty baby-blue finial ornaments would work equally well on a tree, added to a wreath, hung from a garland, or under a clear glass cloche.

● Naturally, what is holiday decor without twinkle lights? We like these oversize clear glass ones, but we love the idea of wrapping the strings in your favorite shade of blue ribbon.

● Ginger jars are one of our favorite blue and white design pieces. Consider putting a festive holiday floral arrangement in the old-standby. The contrast of dark red poinsettias against the blue and white will add drama to any sideboard.

● Try the drama of this bold blue cake stand (we love the bold, unconventional square shape!) when you’re leaving cookies and milk out for Santa, or displaying a great holiday cake (we could link to the cake post here) on your sideboard.
