It may have been an overcast September day in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, but there was no shortage of warmth and love when Megan and Jonathan Hartung exchanged their wedding vows at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Church. After the church ceremony and family photographs, this couple hopped on Jonathan’s dad’s vintage red boat and scooted across Lake Delavan to their outdoor reception site for fellowship, dinner, drinks, and of course, dancing!

We are always thrilled to share our Dogwood Hill brides’ beautiful wedding days with you, and this wedding is no exception! Our design team loved assisting Megan with her Rosalie Save-the-Date and Invitations. These paper pieces set the tone for the blue and white color scheme of the wedding day.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story.

We met briefly at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, both of us were studying Industrial Engineering and attended an on-campus networking event which was hosted by a company that we were both interested in and ended up interning at and working for. A few casual emails and conversations were exchanged, but nothing too impressionable until we talked more during my internship poster presentation. Something in the mixture of supply chain, storytelling, and smiles kept Jonny thinking about me and the following summer, we went on our first date!

How did he propose?

We relived our first date of drinks, sushi at Juno Sushi Chicago, and a lake front walk in Chicago. During our walk along the lake, Jonny proposed and we were ENGAGED!!!

What was the feel that you wanted to accomplish for your wedding and how did your Dogwood Hill paper coordinate with that?

The classic blue and white theme was perfectly executed with Dogwood Hill paper, I fell in love with the design and quality of the paper. I wanted the special moments of the wedding to begin when our guests received their invite set.

What was your favorite paper detail from your wedding?

I loved the response cards with the bow details on them. It was also wonderful to work with Dogwood Hill on a coordinating welcome sign and stationery to use for thank you notes. Having those elements of cohesion within our wedding experience was important to me.

What made you select your particular ceremony and reception venues?

We love spending time in Wisconsin and at the lake. Having the venue on the same lake as our family’s lake house was really special to us and was the perfect setting.

Did you and your husband do a “first look” or did you wait for the first look to take place during your ceremony? And what led you to that decision?

We waited until the ceremony. The idea and tradition of it added to the excitement of the day.

What is your favorite element or detail from your wedding day?

Our boat photos were so fun to do and showing up to the wedding reception on Jonny’s Dad’s classic boat was very unique and special to us.

What was your first dance song?

 “How Sweet It Is”
